Problem with cancelling new line but still received bill?

Back at the end of March, my mom had me help her make an order on some new phones for a new line. However we found out we were still under a different contract so had to return them. I couldn't cancel the order right then because I never realized I made a typo in the email, so I couldn't get some confirmation stuff, etc. But I did call t-mobile and the representative says I can just refuse the delivery when it arrives or take it back to a UPS store. So the package comes to my house, but I didn't get to refuse it, as it was just left at my front door. I took it to the UPS store the next day (completely unopened and untouched). Then weeks later in April, I got a bill statement for those new phones that we needed to pay them and whatnot. So I called again and told them that I thought the account would be cancelled after returning them. The rep I talked to got the stuff done and said we were cancelled and not to worry about the statement.

Just today, we got another letter saying that the payment for the April statement is overdue and we have to pay soon to avoid collection activity. So I called the financial service dept number they gave and they kept transferring me to different depts and stuff. And those previous times I called as well always had me being transferred through various depts. One of the people I spoke to said that the account is closed and they can't check anything. So I don't know. But I'm not sure what to do anymore, but I want help as soon as possible because I don't want to get any more unnecessary charges, etc. I don't want my mom to get more frustrated while I'm trying to help her.

I'm so desperately confused and frustrated... I'm really getting restless because I don't know what I should be checking or anything since we've never done this before.
