T-Mobile charged me early termination fees on a no contract plan

On February 26, 2014 I signed up for the T-Mobile Simple Choice Family Plan. This plan:

At T-Mobile, simple means one plan. No matter if you get 2 lines or 5, on our Simple Choice Plan, every line gets:

  • Unlimited talk, text & data while on our network with no overages. Ever.
  • Up to 1 GB of 4G LTE data on the fastest nationwide 4G LTE network
  • Unlimited international data & text in 120+ countries and destinations PLUS unlimited international texting from the U.S. to virtually anywhere
  • No annual service contracts

Fastest nationwide 4G LTE network based on download speeds.

I had 3 lines to activate, and since I was bringing my own phones I purchased 3 SIM cards. After I received the SIM cards and activated the service, I found that the reception in my area was poorer than indicated on the map, and data was non-existent. I decided to sign up with Straight Talk because I could use an AT&T SIM, and their reception is great where I am. I did not port my T-Mobile number to Straight Talk, I got a different number to use with them. However, my kids didn’t want to change numbers again so soon after getting a new number, so when I activated their Straight Talk accounts, I had their T-Mobile numbers ported over. Since the plan I chose with T-Mobile had no contract, and there is no way on T-Mobile’s website to close an account, I just waited for the next bill to arrive so I could pay any charges I might have incurred over the few weeks I had their service and be done with it. When I finally received the bill on April 1, 2014, it was for $622.90! April Fools? No. T-Mobile charged me $400 in early termination fees for the two lines I had ported the numbers! An early termination fee for each line on a plan that advertises NO ANNUAL SERVICE CONTRACTS!

I called customer service on April 1, 2014 and after 45 minutes of going around in circles, the guy I was talking to finally told me it was all mistake, apologized, and said they would credit the erroneous charges of $429.60 back to my account. Great! I cancelled my service and waited for the corrected bill to arrive. Today I received a notice from a collection agency dated April 7, 2014 that wants me to pay T-Mobile $622.90. Not a snowball’s chance, T-Mobile. Thank you T-Mobile for the practically non-existent service I received under your Simple Choice Family Plan and for the horrible lying customer service I wasted 45 minutes of my life with.

Are there any honest representatives who monitor this forum that can straighten this out? I would be very grateful.
